Phillip Emerson has a Master of Arts in Philosophy and a Master of Social Work. He completed formal psychotherapy training in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy at the Cleveland Psychoanalytic Center, in Cleveland Ohio. He has been licensed as an LSW in the State of Ohio since 2018.
Phillip Emerson began his psychotherapy career in 2016 working in community mental health on Cleveland’s West Side. He gained experience working with veterans at the Louis Stokes Wade Park VA Hospital in Cleveland, and then worked with a primarily Puerto Rican population in Lorain, Ohio, with whom he is continuing to work in his second language, Spanish. He continues to treat native-Spanish speaking populations, as well as a general English-speaking population of adolescents, adults, couples, and families, for problems that include anxiety, depression, panic disorders, posttraumatic stress disorder, various kinds of adjustment problems (including adjustment due to immigration and cultural change), personality disorders, substance use and other problems.
Phillip participates in the National Association of Social Workers, Ohio chapter, and is certified by the NASW in Anti-Oppression Informed Practice. Phillip also views mental health difficulties from a systems perspective, in order to assist clients to become most effective at confronting challenges in their individual lives as well as in their families, work, and communities.
