Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

Adult Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a debilitating condition that can have a negative impact on everyday functioning. The areas of adult functioning affected by ADHD symptoms include, but are not limited to, work performance, academic performance, relationships, planning, organizing, impulse control and emotional control.

Some adults with ADHD suffer to the extent that they experience depression and anxiety, get into trouble with the law, endure lost relationships and employment, and develop substance use disorders. In addition, they are often misdiagnosed with emotional disorders or develop symptoms of emotional disorders due to long-term suffering from ADHD symptoms.

Our ADHD assessment and treatment services are designed to identify ADHD symptoms and related functional deficits in adults and help them develop coping strategies that will allow them to gain more control of their symptoms.

ADHD Evaluation

The first step toward improving functioning in adults with ADHD symptoms is a thorough evaluation that includes testing, a review of academic and legal records, and a comprehensive interview with the adult. Family members, spouses, or others who know the person well might also be involved in the evaluation.

Adults referred for our services will meet with one of our trained professionals who will conduct the evaluation and, with the adult’s input if treatment is recommended, will develop a treatment plan that addresses their individual needs.

ADHD Treatment

Treatment could be delivered in any combination of individual, group, and family sessions. In individual treatment sessions adults work on developing strategies to manage their symptoms.

Family members involved in treatment learn about the challenges adults with ADHD face every day and are provided with tools to assist the adult with managing symptoms in ways that can help improve family functioning.

Group sessions are designed to provide a comfortable and supportive environment for those with ADHD to work on developing and sharpening their coping strategies.
